Curriculum Documents

Our classes are of mixed ability and as far as possible are arranged according to age but owing to the distribution of children within the age groups and the number of staff available, it may be necessary to have some classes with overlapping age groups

The school tries to cater for the needs of each individual child usually within the framework of the school and when necessary seeks the help and advice of other specialist agencies.

Gifted and Talented

At St Mary’s we are committed to the development and fulfilment of potential in all children, including those who have been identified as have particular gifts and talents.

The school has a Gifted and Talented policy, and a dedicated co-ordinator – Leanne Vassall.

We are involved in a number of initiatives to enrich and extend the learning of those children identified as gifted or talented.

Ø     Developing an effective and flexible process to identify children with particular gifts and talents, including teacher assessment, peer and parent nomination and NFER test results

Ø     Developing an effective method of planning for challenges for these children within the classroom

Ø     Building a library of appropriate resources

Ø     Cross-curricula challenge days with neighbouring primary and secondary school

Ø     Learning styles project
