About Us
At St Mary’s we pride ourselves in providing a warm, caring, safe and happy environment for all our pupils, their families and our staff, both teaching and non-teaching.

We believe that when children feel happy and secure, they will progress to become confident, independent learners. Our aim is to develop the whole child: academically, creatively, spiritually, emotionally, socially and morally. We do this through our broad and balanced curriculum.

We pride ourselves in having a highly motivated, committed, hard working staff who value their role in providing valuable educational experiences for each and every child. Extra curricular activities provide opportunities for sport, ICT., drama, music, art and challenges for gifted children.

We believe that we are all here to learn; standards are important but what is crucial is demonstrating improvement on what you have achieved previously. We have started to keep detailed records of individual targets and achievement so that we can see how well we have done and where we need to improve.

As we all have different talents and abilities, our special needs policy encompasses all from the less able to the gifted. We practise ‘inclusion’ for those with special educational needs, ensuring that no one is segregated and we also make the best possible use of outside agencies to support the learning.

Mission Statement (Prospectus - Word document link)

We aim to work in partnership with families, the Parish and  the local community and to strive to develop the unique potential of each person.

We do this through worship, work, play and the provision of a broad and balanced curriculum.

We are a community growing together in Christ as we answer the challenges of everyday life.

St Mary’s school, built in 1887, is a Roman Catholic Voluntary-Aided school. It has its own Nursery Unit, admitting 34 children each and it is hoped that this unit will serve as the main channel of entry into the School. The school serves the parish of Our Lady, Star of the Sea and St. Joseph’s. It provides co-educational day schooling, admitting children to:
Parents and carers of Reception and Nursery children will be invited to a special welcome meeting during the term preceding the children’s admission. This will provide an opportunity for a two-way flow of information and discussion.

St Mary’s provides a Catholic Education for children between four and eleven years of age. Children are educated in an atmosphere in which the love of God is shown in all aspects of school life. The knowledge of St Mary’s is directly taught, but it is also gained by showing his purpose in all activities of the School.

Close co-operation with parent and carers is sought in this family school, so that the values taught and respected at home and at School are the same.

Children are encouraged to play a full part in their parish life by contributing to parish worship and parish projects. Through these activities, children are made aware of their responsibilities to a wider society.
The best learning takes place in a calm and ordered atmosphere.

This web site can only give you a flavour of our school. I shall be only too pleased to answer any of your queries or meet with you.
Yours sincerely
